ACADEMIC GUESTS

Academic guests who have been invited by one of the local research organizations have the opportunity to live in one of the 43 IBZ apartments with their family for the duration of their stay (one month minimum).

Academic guests from abroad desiring to live at the IBZ should contact their host institute. Space is limited – so please apply early.

Please note that reservations can be canceled without charge only up to three months prior to arrival.

It is essential to plan your exact arrival time with the  IBZ staff. If your arrival time does not fall within the above office hours be sure to make the necessary arrangements as soon as possible, to obtain you apartment key. The IBZ staff will be happy to assist you in getting started in Munich. 

What should I know before starting my journey?

Please read the IBZ  information package all guest receive prior to arrival.

from the airport:

  • by Taxi: about 50 Min.
  • by S-Bahn: S8 and S1 in the direction Stadtmitte (city center) to the Marienplatz stop, then transfer to the U-Bahn (subway) Line U3 or U6 in the direction Olympiazentrum or Garching-Hochbrück. Get off at Universität stop 1 1/2 blocks from the IBZ. Approximately 60 minutes

from the main station:

  • by Taxi: about 8 Min.
  • by subway: ine U1 or U 2 in the direction Sendlinger Tor, transfer there to Line U3 or U6 in the direction Olympiazentrum or Garching-Hochbrück. Get off at the University stop 1 1/2 blocks from the IBZ. Time: about 20 minutes

by car:

  • Please use a navigation device or app to find the best route to the IBZ in Munich.

Living in one of the 43 fully furnished, modern apartments, centrally located in desirable Schwabing is an experience in itself. The university district with its variety of restaurants, shops and public transportation is a good way to get acquainted with Munich right from the beginning.

SIZE
one to four room apartments from 32 sqm to 101 sqm

EQUIPMENT
All requisite household appliances, a completely outfitted kitchen, towels, linen and bedding.

INTERNET
The IBZ Munich is connected to the internet via fibre optic cable. The system is operated by the LRZ Munich. All apartments receive a WiFi signal with the SSID “”eduroam””. 

WASHERS/DRIERS
Coin washers and driers in the central cellar rooms

PARKING
Underground parking at € 120,- /month, € 5,-/day

PETS
are not allowed in the IBZ

IBZ Munich offers its residents free Wi-Fi internet access.

This access is provided through the science network of local universities (EDUROAM). To use this system you need to set up an EDUROAM access at your home university before departure.

Eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. Once installed at your home university you can immediately use the internet at participating institutions worldwide.

Please note:

You have to set up EDUROAM at your home university before departure to use EDUROAM Wi-Fi in the IBZ!

The IBZ can not assist you installing EDUROAM in Munich, as the installation process is handled differently for each university.

Please contact your IT-Department before your departure and the IT support from your host institution if you run into difficulties during your stay.
